NJH Style Sheet
The Nigerian Journal of the Humanities (NJH) accepts articles that conform to the MLA format. Specific highlights are:
- The list of Works cited must be on a new page at the end of your text.
- Entries should be arranged alphabetically by the Author’s last name or by title if there is no author for the material being cited.
- Titles are italicized (not underlined). And all important words should be capitalized. Entries are generally double-spaced within the main text, but for purposes of this page, single-spacing should be used.
Works Cited – Book with One Author.
- Bernard, Fonlon. To Every African Freshman. Victoria: The Cameroon Times Publishers, 1965.
Book with Two or Three Authors.
- Francis, Douglas, Richard Jones, and Donald Smith. Destinies: Canadian History since Confederation. Toronto: Harcourt, 2000.
Book with Four or more Authors.
- Baldwin, Richard et al. Economic Geography and Public Policy. Princeton UP, 2003.
Two or more Books with the same Author.
- Replace author’s name with three hyphens and arrange alphabetically the books title.
Postman, Neil. Amusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourse in the Age of Show Business.
New York: Viking, 1985.
—. The Disappearance of Childhood. New York: Vintage. 1994.
Anthology or Compilation

Article in a Journal

- Articles for submission should be on A4 paper, typed double space in 12 point Times New Roman.
- Citations within the text should include author’s name, year and page, e.g., Glen (1993:175), or (Glen, 1993:175).
- Set the margins of your document to 1 inch on all sides.
- Indent the first line of paragraphs one half-inch from the left margin. Use the Tab key as opposed to pushing the Space Bar five times.
- Number all pages consecutively centered at the bottom. Omit the number on your first page.
- Use italics throughout your essay for the titles of works that appear in the text.
- If you have any endnotes, include them on a separate page before your section entitled Works Cited.
An Entire Web Site

A Web Page on a Web Site
Last name, First name. “Document title available”. Title of overall Web Site. Version or edition if available. Publisher or n. p. To designate no publisher, publication date or n.d. to mean no date. Date of access. If you cannot find some of this information, include only what is available.
